At the age of 11, she began violin lessons at the Welsh College of Music & Drama, and played with the Cardiff Youth Orchestra. Caryn was accepted into the National Youth Orchestra of Wales at 15, led by the Canadian conductor, Arthur Davidson. She attended the University of Wales, and gained Bachelor of Music with Honors, and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education, studying under Welsh composer Alun Hoddinot and German violinist Alfredo Wang. She worked as a peripatetic instrumental teacher for South Glamorgan Education Authority teaching violin and viola. She conducted the South Glamorgan Transitional Orchestra, and coached the violin with the South Glamorgan Junior Orchestra. She also coached violin and viola with the South Glamorgan Youth Orchestra, an award-winning orchestra who performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London. In her playing career, Caryn was a founder member of the City of Cardiff Symphony Orchestra, the Rhondda Symphony, and the Llandaff Court Ensemble, which played at Gala Events including Royal visits to Cardiff.

Caryn moved to Hampshire in Southern England in 1996, and taught in the Hampshire and Wiltshire education system working in schools at both elementary and high school level, and also coaching the Salisbury Youth Ensemble. Caryn played with the Dorset Philharmonia, Salisbury Sinfonia, and Salisbury Orchestral Society. She also lectured for Hampshire Education Authority training teachers in an Early Music program for pre-school children, and coached chamber music for Wiltshire music groups. Caryn moved to New Jersey in 2000, when her husband Simon’s employment with JPMorgan Chase was moved to Wall Street, NY. Caryn plays with local orchestras including Livingston Symphony, Summit, Plainfield, Manalapan-Battlefield, New Jersey Concert Opera and the Baroque Orchestra of Boonton. She teaches privately, and has coached violin at NJYO for the past four years.
